The social networking giant is reportedly preparing to release a line-up of television-style shows on the site in June. Although no show names or stars have been mentioned, the list of shows will number around two dozen, according a report from Business Insideron Friday.

Facebook's decision to get into the content business is just the latest in a trend of technology companies looking to control not just the platform but the content streaming on the platform.

From more obvious players like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to the seemingly unusual ventures from the likes of Apple, Verizon, Snapchat, and now Twitter, the old adage that "content is king" has never been truer.

With the addition of Facebook, the world's largest social network, to the fold, it may only be a mater of time before we see the next Game of Thronesor Walking Deadhit come along not from a traditional TV or cable studio, but from the same company you use to chat with your friends and family.
